Fish Rescue
Fish Rescue
What is Fish Rescue ?
Every year in southern Alberta, fish become trapped in irrigation canals and cannot return to their home rivers without human intervention. The Fish Rescue is an annual event, led by Freshwater Conservation Canada in partnership with the provincial government, with the goal of rescuing stranded fish and turning them to rivers and reservoirs. We use electrofishing, a scientific collection technique, to capture fish that are then identified, counted, and measured before being set free to carry out their lifecycle.
