Our Team.

Freshwater Conservation Canada is a charitable conservation organization whose mission is to conserve, protect, and restore Canada’s freshwater ecosystems and coldwater resources for current and future generations. Our team is comprised of dedicated individuals who are passionate about freshwater conservation and work tirelessly to achieve our mission.

Our team is a passionate group of professionals dedicated to safeguarding Canada's freshwater ecosystems.  With a shared commitment to conservation, commuity collaboration, and sustainable practices, we bring together diverse skills and experiences to drive impactful change.  Our team works tirelessly to protect and restore our rivers, lakes, and wetlands.  Together, we are building a future where clean, healthy water is available for all, now and for generations to come.

Akshaya Av

Database & Membership Coordinator

Akshaya keeps our community connected and informed.  Akshaya manages our supporter database, ensure donor and member records are accurate and up to date, and supports fundraising and outreach efforts across the organization.  From processing donations to sharing program updates, Akshaya helps build strong relationships with individuals and partners who power our work to protect Canada's freshwater.

Akshaya will be on Mat Leave from May '25 through May '26.

Jonathan Gosling

Conservation Project Coordinator

Jonathan plays a key role in delivering meaningful, on-the-ground conservation work.  From organizing fieldwork and coordinating partners to managing site logistics and tracking progress, Jonathan helps to ensure every project runs smoothly and effectively.  Jonathan also contributes to the growth of our programs by identifying new project opportunities by engaging with local communities, assessing habitat needs and supporting eh development of future restoration projects.

Mike McKenzie

Restoration Biologist & Conservation Program Manager 

Mike leads the strategic direction and delivery of our core initiatives, include reconnecting fragmented waterways, protecting native species, and restoring natural water flow.  Mike works across regions to plan and oversee projects, build partnerships, and ensures our programs achieve lasting, science-based results that support freshwater health and biodiversity.

Deanna Del Valle 

Conservation Project Coordinator

Deanna helps bring freshwater conservation projects to life from the first site visit to the final planting day.  Deanna supports the planning, logistics, and hands-on delivery of fieldwork that restores streams, improves habitat, and reconnects water systems.  In addition to coordinating current projects, Deanna also helps identify new opportunities for conservation programming by building local relationships, monitoring ecosystem needs, and supporting on-the-ground innovation.

Cirdele Azevedo

Executive Assistant & Office Manager

Cirdele keeps everything running behind the scenes.  Cirdele provides essential support to the leadership team, manages day-to-day office operations and ensures smooth communication across the organization.  From coordinating schedules and board meetings to keeping systems organized and efficient, Cirdele's role is central to the success of both conservation work and our team.

Sara Jose

Conservation Project Coordinator

Sara helps bring freshwater conservation projects to life from the first site visit to the final planting day.  Sara supports the planning, logistics, and day-to-day delivery of field work that restores streams, improves habitat, and reconnects water systems.  Working closely with biologists, community partners, and volunteers, Sara ensures that each project runs smoothly and contributes to the long-term health of freshwater ecosystems.

Dana Seymour

Donor Relations & Events Lead

Dana helps grow and celebrate the community of supporters who make our conservation work possible.  Dana manages donor stewardship ensuring every gift is acknowledged and every donor feels connected to the impact of their support.  Dana also leads the planning and execution of special events from community fundraisers to donor gatherings to digital auctions, Dana creates meaningful opportunities for people to engage with freshwater conservation in Canada.

Winston, Layla & Pickles

Chief Treat Officer, Head of Puplick Relations & Director of Pawsitivity

Our fur friends bring daily joy, stress relief, and tail wags to the office.  Whether greeting visitors, boosting morale, or politely requesting snacks, our office Pup-erations team remind us to slow down and enjoy the little things.  True ambassadors of good vibes, these canines are an essential part of the team especially when treats are involved.

David Fields

Conservation Program Manager

David leads the work we do to restore and protect healthy rivers, streams, and the surrounding riparian zones.  David oversees on-the-ground programs and projects that improves water quality, stabilizes streambanks, plants native vegetation, and supports wildlife habitats.  By working closely with local communities, volunteers, and environmental partners, David ensures each project contributes to the long term health and resilience of freshwater ecosystems across Canada.

Elliot Lindsay

Restoration Biologist & Conservation Program Manager 

Elliot brings science to the field by designing and implementing projects that restore natural habitats, improve stream flow, and protect vulnerable native species.  Elliot assess freshwater systems, guide restoration techniques, and monitors outcomes to ensure ecosystems can recover and thrive.  Their work is essential to reconnecting rivers and streams, improving water quantity, and ensure the survival of species that depend on clean, connected habitats.

Angela Ten

Restoration Biologist & Conservation Program Manager 

Angela brings hands-on ecological expertise to the field.  From assessing stream health to designing habitat restoration projects, Angela ensures that each initiative from fish passage improvements to native species recovery is backed by science and tailored to local needs.  Angela's work supports our program areas by restoring habitat, reconnecting waterways, improving water flow, and protecting the species that depend on healthy freshwater systems.

Support Staff.

At Freshwater Conservation Canada, every successful project in the field is backed by a dedicated team working on the ground or behind the scenes.  Our support staff play a vital role in ensuring our programs run smoothly and efficiently from coordinating logistics and managing data to keeping our finances and communications on track.

Their contributions allow our conservation teams to stay focused on what matters most, conserving, protecting, and restoring Canada's rivers, streams, and lakes.  Whether its organizing volunteer events, maintaining essential equipment, or helping donors stay connected, our staff keep the engine running.
