Action on Recovery Fourm-Registration for the 2018 Crown Managers Partnership Forum: “Action on Recovery – Native Salmonid Recovery in the Crown to be held March 20-22, 2018 in Lethbridge, Alberta is now open. This forum is a great opportunity for community members, researchers, First Nations, NGOs, and industry to come together to learn about and share ideas related to native salmonid recovery.
The salmonid family of fishes include trout, char, whitefish, grayling, and salmon. Some salmonid populations within the Crown of the Continent (a diverse and unique ecosystem encompassing the shared Rocky Mountain region of Alberta, British Columbia, and Montana) are listed as threatened within these various jurisdictions. For example, Bull Trout are listed as a Threatened under the U.S. Endangered Species Act and the Alberta population is listed as Threatened under the province’s Wildlife Act. Westslope Cutthroat Trout are listed as Threatened under Canada’s Species at Risk Act and considered at risk in Montana as well.
The workshop is being organized by Alberta Environment and Parks in partnership with the Crown Managers Partnership, National Park Service, The Wilderness Society, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Great Northern Conservation Cooperative, Flathead Lake Biological Station, Parks Canada, United States Geological Survey and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and many of these agencies will provide an update on actions towards native salmonid recovery in this region. The forum will also be an opportunity to prioritize watersheds and key actions towards native salmonid recovery and to discuss challenges and opportunities for implementing recovery actions.
