YFR and
EPCOR Edmonton Caring for our Waters. Trout Unlimited Canada’s Yellow Fish Road program would like to express our appreciation for continued sponsorship from EPCOR Edmonton for 2017-2018.
EPCOR’s active involvement and commitment to the program has enabled us to provide a stronger presence and voice for clean water within the City of Edmonton and the surrounding communities of St. Albert and Sherwood Park. TUC’s Yellow Fish Road program participated in five EPCOR sponsored community events and two employee engagement opportunities, inspiring junior high students towards career possibilities in water management, treatment, and research. Speaking to the careers available in relation to the YFR platform, inspiring students to current career possibilities in water.
In 2017, we saw twice as much interest in the storm drain painting, which is the active action component of the program. We saw close to 500 storm drains paintings and 2,000 door hangers distributed throughout the City of Edmonton. This demonstrates the impact of the program in which youth and adults alike are motivated towards making a difference in the protection of their local waters, the North Saskatchewan River. We also experienced a much larger reach at events (over 9,400 participants) and an increase in the number of program participants (over 1,000 participants) from previous years, demonstrating the growing interest in the program. We look forward to an exciting 2018 as we transition to our new self-delivery model, enabling program participants to take on the program with all the tools they need at their own pace and time.
Here are few things we heard in response to our Edmonton YFR programs in 2017:
“What an amazing learning experience that both the Cubs and Scouts had with this invaluable service project.” – Goldbar Scouts “This is a great program that all schools should be doing. It was a fantastic experience for our students, I can’t say enough good things about it, we loved it!” – Meadowlark Christian School “Very interactive and engaging for students! Love the hands-on”. – Lago Linda School
