Family Fun Day and Duck Dash Are Back!

Family Fun Day and Duck Dash 2022 By Sara Jose, Strategic Watershed Action Team Crew Member

After a two-year absence, the Duck Dash and Family Fun Day returned to Courtcliffe Park on Saturday, June 25th. Trout Unlimited Canada’s (TUC) Strategic Watershed Action Team (SWAT) and TUC Ted Knott Chapter teamed up with the Carlisle Optimists Club to host the Family Fun Day and Duck Dash at the park. The Family Fun Day is an opportunity for the community to come out and enjoy a variety of conservation education activities while raising money for the Carlisle Optimists Club at their Annual Duck Dash.

The TUC team set up three stations to teach about stream conservation. At one station, participants learned how to identify aquatic insects and their importance in stream systems. Another station consisted of an obstacle course where participants learned the difficulties fish face when trying to navigate streams and accessing spawning areas. The third station was an art station where participants made fish prints and learned the anatomy of fish. Other activities included a fly-tying station, a visit from the local fire department, and the Annual Duck Dash where participants watched their rubber ducks race down Bronte Creek!

The 2022 return of this event was a success, with approximately 100 people coming out and participating in the activities. Trout Unlimited Canada and the Ted Knott Chapter would like to thank the Carlisle Optimists club for the opportunity to come help and teach about the importance of our healthy streams. As well, as all the enthusiastic families that came out to learn and have fun. We look forward to next year’s event!
