Job Description: Trout Unlimited Canada is looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals to be part of a small team to assist in brook trout habitat recovery in southern Ontario. Crew members will perform in-stream habitat restoration work and assist with monitoring and assessment. Successful candidates will be trained for all necessary fieldwork and do not require previous experience, but it is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities will include stream rehabilitation works (bioengineering, aquatic habitat enhancement), monitoring and assessment fieldwork (aquatic habitat assessments, fisheries surveys, aquatic invertebrate collections, water quality analyses), and participation in community outreach activities (assisting with volunteer workdays and delivering educational programming). Additional responsibilities will include creating social media content, data entry, and other administrative tasks. This job is physically active and requires lifting and carrying weighted items. Work duties may take place on evenings and weekends, and overnight trips may be required.

Qualifications:

  1. Some post-secondary education in biology/environmental science or a related field Comfortable in the outdoors, around water, and in adverse weather conditions

  2. Experience working with youth, volunteers, and community groups

  3. Able to communicate scientific information to the public

  4. Experience with Microsoft Office programs and social media

  5. Ontario G Driver’s License, with good driving record, and Standard First Aid and CPR certification required

Please indicate if you have:

  1. Stream restoration experience

  2. Class 2 Backpack Electrofishing Certificate or experience

  3. Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network certification or experience

  4. Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol certification or experience
