The Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) supports TUC’s Water Edu-Kit. TUC and ACA are both dedicated to protecting fish, wildlife and their habitat in healthy communities throughout Canada and Alberta. TUC is honored to have the support from ACA for our Water Edu-Kit program which encourages youth to get outdoors and connect with their local rivers, creeks and streams. TUC is looking to build on the momentum and expand on the well-received pilot of the 2017 program, which was an invaluable educational resource towards the exploration of the chemistry, science and challenges of water use in Alberta.
The 2017 pilot program garnered an excellent reception from educators and community group leaders, as well as watershed alliances and municipalities. Interest was seen throughout the province with the kits reaching over 30 communities! We hope to build on this success and continue to expand and evolve the program.
For 2018, the Water Edu-Kit program will continue to be promoted across the country to all schools and community groups and be available at a discounted cost to Albertans thanks to ACA for 2018. We are looking forward to continued support for the program and to offer the kits to French-speaking communities in Alberta as well as to reach out to new and isolated communities.
Here is some of the feedback we have recieved about the Water Edu-Kits:
“These kits provide a wonderful way to get kids outside and make a connection to water.” “We really appreciate having the authentic materials to take with us on pond studies. These kits bring a sense of professionalism to our school studies.” “I sincerely appreciate your support and efforts to enhance science learning in classrooms.” “They had to think about what was healthy vs. what was not healthy and how water quality affects organisms that live in water.” “They previously had no idea what invertebrates existed in a lake – exposed them to a new world.”
