Yellow Fish Road Award

Yellow Fish Road Award-Trout Unlimited Canada would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Tristan To, a Grade 6 student from Webber Academy in Calgary, Alberta. Tristan is this year’s recipient of the Yellow Fish Road Award. This annual award is presented to an inspiring youth at the Calgary Youth Science Fair (CYSF) who has done a water-related science project.

In addition, Tristan also won the City of Calgary Water Services Award at the same science fair.

Tristan’s project made the use of bioluminescent cultures to measure water quality on different locations along the Bow and Elbow Rivers in Calgary. Using careful, controlled methods, he was able to see a dimming of the light that these bioluminescent cultures give off with higher levels of pollution. His scientific findings concluded that there is indeed a greater amount of pollution in the waters downstream from the city. This conclusion will go a long way to sourcing locations of water quality challenges along our rivers. He would like to further revisit this experiment at different locations and throughout the seasons.

Way to go Tristan!
